2022: Manhattan Voted Gray’s Papaya Best Hot Dog!
Gray’s Papaya

For New Yorkers, it’s been no secret for decades that the best hot dogs in Manhattan are the tasty, inexpensive ones served up at Gray’s Papaya, including at its original, uptown location on the corner of 72nd St. They have a distinct snap and are delicious plain or with any of the various classic toppings offered, including sauerkraut, onions, relish, mustard and ketchup, or, for a few cents extra, chili or cheese. Many visitors go for the famous “recession special” that includes two hot dogs and your choice of a medium tropical drink: either banana, coconut, pina colada or, of course, papaya. Although frankfurters and tropical drinks may seem like an odd combination, they just go together like, well, hot dogs and sauerkraut!

2020: Manhattan Voted Katz’s Delicatessen Best Hot Dog!
Katz’s Delicatessen
205 E Houston St
(212) 254-2246 – www.katzsdelicatessen.com
Katz’s Delicatessen is known for its world-famous pastrami sandwiches, piled high with mountains of meat, soft, pillow knishes and delicious all-beef hot dogs. Since 1888, Katz’s has been serving hungry customers in the Lower East Side and beyond. The Iceland brothers established the shop over 130 years ago and later partnered with Willy Katz in 1903. They changed the official store name to Iceland & Katz before Willy’s cousin Benny joined the company in 1910. The cousins bought out the business and Katz’s was born. Week after week, thousands flock to Katz’s to get a taste of their legendary food including sandwiches, platters and a wide selection of meat. The restaurant built its reputation on choosing only the best-quality beef for their beef, pastrami, brisket and other dishes.
