Adopting from an animal shelter means taking in a new furry family member, and giving them a chance to live a safe life. That’s why it’s important to find an animal shelter with values to match yours. Animal Care Centers of NYC’s Manhattan facility in the Upper East Side is one of three full-service centers that the institution runs, as well as two Admissions Centers located in the Bronx and Queens. Whether animals arrive after being homeless, family crisis or abuse, the center does not turn away any animal in need. The centers provide a range of services from adoption services to spaying and neutering and a lost and found program. For those who want to give back, its volunteers provide care for shelter animals as well as important administrative and fundraising support.
2022: Manhattan Voted Bideawee Best Animal Shelter!
410 E 38th St
With operations across the Tri-State area, Bideawee is not just a shelter for stray pets — it’s an organization that cares for needy animals, helps seniors, and provides therapeutic initiatives for children. Founded 117 years ago, Bideawee and their amazing staff take incredible care of the animals at their facilities, and help provide any assistance (behavioral, medical, or otherwise) that they may need. The ultimate goal is to pair the animals with new, loving homes for the long term, while also offering the chance to foster pets for short times to give them a break from the shelter system. In addition to caring for animals, they launched one of America’s first animal-assisted therapy programs to bring the benefits of the human-animal bond to vulnerable populations, such as seniors or the disabled, which brings big smileys to the faces of those in the most need. They also offer a “Reading to Dogs Program” which allows children to find therapy and improve their reading skills with the help of some four-legged friends. If you’re looking to adopt, foster or volunteer, Bideawee is the place to go.
