Emack & Bolio’s began in Boston in 1975, when music lawyer Bob Rook created an after-hours ice cream hangout for musicians. The original concept grew out of Boston’s late-night music scene and a basement in Brookline where rock ’n’ roll friends could gather after gigs for homemade ice cream and music. The shop has since exploded in popularity, expanding to locations around the world — including this one on the Upper West Side. They pride themselves on their enormous list of inventive flavors — more than 75 a year, with a new one every week — and favorites include “s’moreo,” “space cake,” and “caramel moose prints.” The shop also offers a range of vegan ice creams and sorbets, so dairy-free customers can enjoy their ice cream too.
